Singltrek pod Smrkem’s three Czech gateways: which trailhead should you choose from Świeradów-Zdrój?

Bikecentrum Libverda, Centrum u Kyselky and Singltrek Centrum in Nové Město pod Smrkem lead to the same trail network, but organise a day on the bike in entirely different ways. We compare parking, bike hire, servicing, bike washing, food, maps and how easy it is to cut a ride short—without ranking the trails themselves.

Bikecentrum Libverda lies around 600 metres from the trails on the Hejnický hřeben, while Singltrek Centrum in Nové Město pod Smrkem offers immediate access to bike hire, a bike wash and showers[1]. These are two different ways of organising the same Czech day on the bike. Between them lies Centrum u Kyselky—a quieter access point with links to easier sections, bike hire and basic facilities.

For visitors staying in Świeradów-Zdrój, choosing a trailhead is therefore not a question of which route is “best”. It is about logistics: whether you are bringing your own bike or need equipment on site, whether the group has mixed abilities, and whether after riding you want to return straight to the car or end the day with food and a shower. The official operator identifies three main access points: Bikecentrum Libverda, Centrum u Kyselky and Singltrek Centrum in Nové Město pod Smrkem[2]. Each is best treated as a different model of excursion.

First, decide what your day needs

Singltrek pod Smrkem is a network, not a single loop that starts and ends at one car park. The trails are colour-coded and vary in difficulty: green sections serve as gentle connections, blue trails are easier loops, red trails require more experience, and black trails are intended for more advanced riders[3]. This matters when choosing your gateway, because your starting point can reduce unnecessary transfers and allow you to turn back without turning the ride into an all-day expedition.

The simplest breakdown is:

  • Choose Bikecentrum Libverda when quick preparation and proximity to specific trails on the Hejnice side matter most.
  • Centrum u Kyselky works well for a gentler start, families or groups that want access to easier sections and basic facilities.
  • Singltrek Centrum is the most complete base: particularly practical for people without their own bikes, larger groups and anyone who wants to finish the day in one place.

This does not mean that any of these points is exclusively for beginners or exclusively for experts. The difference lies in how many arrangements you can make before setting off and after returning.

Bikecentrum Libverda: a quick start beside a spa town

Bikecentrum Libverda is located at car park P1, at the entrance to Lázně Libverda from the Hejnice side. The operator states that the trails on the Hejnický hřeben begin around 600 metres from the access point[1]. This is the clearest argument for choosing this location: the car stays close to the start of the ride, and getting ready does not require a long stretch on the road or through a built-up area.

This trailhead suits a day planned around your own bike. You arrive, unpack your equipment, check the brakes and set off. Bikecentrum also offers bike hire and servicing facilities, but the availability of specific models, sizes and services may depend on the season and the current organisation of operations. If hiring a bike is essential to the trip, booking in advance is wiser than counting on equipment being available when you arrive.

Local materials describing Bikecentrum list basic servicing, bike washing, sanitary facilities, parking and a food outlet. That is more than an ordinary forest car park, but a less extensive service point than Singltrek Centrum[4]. The difference is particularly relevant when travelling with children, someone just starting out in mountain biking or a group in which some participants may need a quick repair.

Libverda is also a good choice for those who do not want to build the entire excursion around a cycling centre. Once the ride is over, you can stay in the spa town, plan a meal or combine cycling with a short visit to Lázně Libverda. The trailhead itself, however, remains primarily an operational point: a car park, bike-hire outlet, service facility and direct entry into the trail network.

When not to choose Bikecentrum Libverda?

It will not be the most obvious starting point for a group that needs a full centre with showers, a wide choice of equipment, a rest area and additional attractions for non-riders. If someone in the group has no bike while someone else wants to wash their equipment and take a shower after riding, it is worth comparing Bikecentrum’s current range of services with that of Singltrek Centrum before setting off. Libverda’s strength is simplicity. You should not expect the infrastructure of a large complex.

Centrum u Kyselky: the quieter option for families and beginners

Centrum u Kyselky is located in Nové Město pod Smrkem and, according to the operator, connects to the green and blue sections of Singltrek. The official description identifies it as suitable for families with children and people beginning to ride this type of trail; it also mentions convenient trail access, secure parking and facilities for taking a break[2].

This is the option for a day when you do not want to commit immediately to a long, ambitious loop. You can begin with an easier section, assess the group’s fitness and decide only later whether to continue. If the weather worsens, a child runs out of energy or one rider decides that the terrain is more demanding than expected, returning to the starting point need not become a logistical disaster.

The centre runs a Trek bike-hire service, and its current offering also includes full-suspension mountain bikes and electric trail models. The facilities listed on site also include a service and bike shop, bike washing, snacks and sanitary facilities[5]. This means that U Kyselky is not merely a modest car park, although its character remains quieter than that of the main Singltrek Centrum.

In practice, it is best to treat this point as a place for people who want access to services but do not need the full camping and recreational infrastructure. A family can arrive with its own bikes, hire equipment for one person or use U Kyselky as a safe meeting point for several groups riding at different paces.

U Kyselky’s greatest advantage

It is the ability to scale your plan gradually. You do not have to decide before setting off whether everyone will complete a long section. Easier connections and access to green and blue trails allow you to start cautiously and make the decision about riding farther only after a few kilometres. That is precisely why this trailhead suits a first Czech day on Singltrek or a group with a wide range of abilities.

Singltrek Centrum: a complete base when the bike should be a service, not luggage

Singltrek Centrum by the swimming pool in Nové Město pod Smrkem is the network’s main starting point. Official materials list bike hire, a bike shop, servicing, a bike wash, toilets, showers, a rest area, food, a playground, a pump track and a campsite here[6]. It is the only one of the three trailheads that can be described as a complete base for the whole day, rather than simply a place to begin riding.

Its greatest advantage becomes apparent when you do not want to transport bikes from Świeradów. The hire service operates on site, and the booking system allows you to choose a date, frame size and equipment category; options include hardtails, full-suspension bikes, e-bikes and children’s models[7]. It is a convenient solution, but one that requires planning. With a larger group, it is worth reserving bikes in advance, especially if everyone needs similar sizes or a particular type of suspension.

The second argument is the post-ride infrastructure. The bike wash operates with tokens, showers are available for an additional fee, and parking at the centre is described as paid and unattended[8]. We do not give rates here, as these may change. Before setting off, check the current prices, payment methods and seasonal opening hours.

Singltrek Centrum also works well for a family day. Someone who does not want to complete the whole loop can stay by the swimming pool, playground or pump track. For a larger group, it is a practical meeting point: you can split into several groups, return at different times, wash the bikes and meet for a meal without having to look for another place in town.

However, do not confuse a centre’s full range of facilities with a guarantee that every service will operate all year round at the same level. The bike-hire service, food outlet, campsite and workshop each have their own seasons and opening hours. The safest approach is to check them before setting off, along with bike availability and the current trail conditions.

How to drive from Świeradów without complicating the plan

For visitors to Świeradów-Zdrój, the two points in Nové Město pod Smrkem—U Kyselky and Singltrek Centrum—lie in the same direction after crossing the border in the Czerniawa-Zdrój area. Bikecentrum Libverda requires continuing towards Lázně Libverda. There is little point basing your choice solely on driving time, as during the season roadworks, traffic levels, parking availability and the opening hours of each point all matter.

When planning a day by car, enter the trailhead’s exact name into your navigation system, not just the town. Nové Město pod Smrkem has two different starting points, and choosing the wrong one may mean an unnecessary move to another car park. Singltrek Centrum is located by the swimming pool on Plovárenská Street, while U Kyselky is a separate point in the town[6].

It is worth treating parking as part of your contingency plan. At Bikecentrum, the operator specifically identifies car park P1. At U Kyselky, secure parking is mentioned, while at Singltrek Centrum the parking is described as paid and unattended. In practice, it is wise to arrive with a Plan B: know where you can leave the car, whether parking is paid and whether bikes and luggage may be stored there. Do not leave helmets, pumps or electronics in visible places.

Maps, cutting a ride short and checking trail status

The biggest mistake when choosing a trailhead is planning the day solely around a trail’s name. Before setting off, check the official network map, riding directions, colours and connections between sections. The region’s cycling map shows the shared layout of trails on the Polish and Czech sides, but in the field it is the signage and the operator’s current notices that count[9].

If you want the option of ending the ride quickly, choose a point that is easy to return to without adding a long stretch on the road. U Kyselky is the logical choice for a beginner group, as the operator identifies its connections with the green and blue trails. Bikecentrum works well when you want quick access to the Hejnický hřeben area. Singltrek Centrum, meanwhile, offers the greatest range of organisational options: you can hire equipment, split up the group, return early, use the bike wash or finish the day by the swimming pool.

Do not assume that every section will be rideable simply because the map is available online. The operator publishes a separate notice on the current trail status, and temporary closures may result from maintenance work, weather conditions or circumstances in the forest. Checking the status on the day of your trip should be as routine as checking the weather.

The published trailhead descriptions do not contain unequivocal confirmation of publicly accessible e-bike charging stations at each of the three points. If battery range determines your choice of location, contact the specific point before arriving and do not assume that the ability to hire an electric bike automatically means that a charger is available for your own equipment.

Choose this trailhead if…

  • Choose Bikecentrum Libverda if you are riding your own bike, want a short preparation, need car park P1 and quick access to the Hejnický hřeben area. It is a good option for people who do not need a large recreational zone.
  • Choose Centrum u Kyselky if you are travelling with a family, a beginner cyclist or a group with mixed abilities. Easier access to green and blue trails, bike hire, servicing, bike washing and basic facilities allow you to shorten the day flexibly.
  • Choose Singltrek Centrum if you need to hire a bike or e-bike, want access to a shop, service facility, bike wash, shower, food and a place to rest, or are organising a day for a larger group.

The three Czech gateways do not compete through a name or a promise of the “best trail”. They differ in how many decisions need to be made before setting off and how many things can be taken care of after returning. Bikecentrum Libverda is the choice for quick access, U Kyselky for a calm and flexible start, and Singltrek Centrum for full service. From your base in Świeradów, then, choose not the point that looks closest on the map, but the one that suits your bike, your group and the way you plan to end the day.
