Złotniki Dam

The low, even roar of the Kwisa gathers under a sweep of stone; cool spray rides the air as the dam’s arched face holds back a broad mirror of water. Built between 1922 and 1924, this stone arch dam is among the tallest of its kind in Poland. Its masonry rises in a graceful curve above the Kwisa valley in gmina Leśna, a feat of interwar engineering framed by forested slopes. Light skates across the reservoir while, below, the river threads away through a narrow cleft.

People come to pause and look. From the viewpoint over the valley, you see the structure’s curve unfurl beneath you and the long reach of the Kwisa upstream. Early mornings bring mist lifting off the water; late afternoons warm the stone and pull out the greens of the surrounding hills, autumn deepens them to copper and russet, winter frosts the stone. It’s a quiet, elemental stop that rounds out a trip to Świeradów‑Zdrój, reminding you how the Izera Mountains are as much about water and light as spruce and granite.
