PL-CZ Trail: Świeradów to Smrk

The sound of wind moving through spruce crowns sets the pace as the trail climbs out of Świeradów-Zdrój, gravel and roots crunching underfoot. It tops out on Stóg Izerski and slips along the ridge, sometimes in shade, sometimes breaking into open patches where sky and heath feel close at hand. Modest boundary markers appear and disappear at the edge of the path, a quiet reminder that this is a cross‑border route straddling Poland and the Czech Republic.

Hikers press on toward Smrk (1124 m), the highest peak on the Czech side of the Izera Mountains, rewarded on clear days with far‑ranging views over forested plateaus and neighboring ranges. Early mornings and late afternoons bring soft light and calmer winds; winter can be snowbound and icy, spring and autumn often at their most atmospheric. Waymarking guides the way, but the real pleasure is unhurried—pausing at clearings, listening to the hush, and feeling how Świeradów‑Zdrój’s gentle spa town gives way to wide, shared highlands.
