Bukovec Peak
Wind combs the grasses above Jizerka while the dark, rounded shoulder of Bukovec stands steady against the sky. Underfoot the path firms to knobbly basalt, a reminder that this is the highest peak of volcanic origin in the Sudetes, a neat cone rising to 1005 m and protected as a Czech national nature reserve. The approach from Jizerka is straightforward and unhurried; you simply follow a well-trodden track up through meadow edges and patches of spruce to the crest, keeping to marked routes to give the fragile slopes the space they deserve.
At the top, pauses reward you with wide views over the Jizerka settlement and the rolling backs of the Jizera Mountains, their open moors and forests catching the light in different seasons. Early mornings feel hushed, the cone warming to the first sun; late afternoons draw long shadows across the valley. In summer the air is sharp and clear; in winter, when snow quiets the landscape, the hill reads like a charcoal sketch. As part of a day out from Świeradów-Zdrój, Bukovec adds a cross-border flourish to the Izera experience—concise, distinctive, and quietly memorable.
